I never let Mum forget this story. She was always saying "it was 3 DAYS!" and I was always saying "it was 3 WEEKS!". I tripped over while running to catch the bus after school. While I had a bleeding scrape on my knee, it was my wrist and arm that were so very painful. We just got on with life in our family and it was weeks before the other kids complained to Mum that I wouldn't do the dishes because I said I'd drop the plates. "Right my girl" said Mum and it was off to the Doctor the following day. Poor Mum! The Doctor said "What kind of a mother are you not to notice your child has a broken arm". He went on to say I'd need to go to hospital for surgery to correct the break. I wasn't scared but hugely excited that I'd get an experience the other kids wouldn't have. The impact of the following week lead me to a 30 year nursing career!
Marie: And yet another story!
It seems to be a trait of the elderly to tell stories and often repeat the same stories. As our family has a major Reunion in February 2015 I will tell a family story each day and NOT repeat it for 100 days. I will use christian names from our earlier generations as pseudonyms.
