We were lucky enough to somehow or other have roller skates and our Uncle used to take us out to the Hot Springs to the skating rink and encourage us to learn. But that wasn't enough for us! We decided to use the cowshed as our very own skating rink where we could practise every spare hour we could get in order to improve our skills. This was all very well for a few glorious weeks till Dad noticed the concrete was crumbling what with the weight of the cows along with his children's hours of skating practise. In fact he was furious as at great expense and inconvenience Dad and my uncle and older brother had to resurface the whole shed! That put an end to our very own skating rink at home on the farm!
Marie: And yet another story!
It seems to be a trait of the elderly to tell stories and often repeat the same stories. As our family has a major Reunion in February 2015 I will tell a family story each day and NOT repeat it for 100 days. I will use christian names from our earlier generations as pseudonyms.
