There were strict sickness rules in our family. If we had an upset tummy for whatever reason the rules never altered. "Right" said Mum "Water only for 24 hours!" That was fine with us as we were too sick at that stage to care. It was the following day's order that had the 'bite' to it. "Right" said Mum "Water crackers only!" The next days rule was really tough as we were usually fit and well again at that stage. "Right" said Mum "crackers and hot marmite soup." And that was that! I didn't mind the upset tummy rules as this often applied to me and I knew Mum's method worked. What I objected to was the rule for infectious diseases, which we all had, one after another as we grew up. For every bout of these infectious diseases I had one or two spots, or had a slight temperature, or a slight cough but still had to stay home till all the other kids had recovered. At the time I found that rule most unfair and really did NOT appreciate missing school because the other kids were sick but I wasn't!
Marie: And yet another story!
It seems to be a trait of the elderly to tell stories and often repeat the same stories. As our family has a major Reunion in February 2015 I will tell a family story each day and NOT repeat it for 100 days. I will use christian names from our earlier generations as pseudonyms.
