We were a very lucky family indeed when my older brother won a tape recorder. It was a large box-like machine difficult to compare with anything we use these days. We spent many happy hours and days playing with our first recorder, telling stories, singing, trying out various speaking voices, and playing musical instruments which were always lying around our house. Most of all though we would make an hour long tape and when it was ready it would be posted overseas to our sister Ailsa. Then we would wait a few months until the day came when a tape would arrive from her in the mail. I'm sure we all have different memories of those recordings, but my favourite was listening to her pupils at a school in Scotland and those broad lilting children's voices.
Marie: And yet another story!
It seems to be a trait of the elderly to tell stories and often repeat the same stories. As our family has a major Reunion in February 2015 I will tell a family story each day and NOT repeat it for 100 days. I will use christian names from our earlier generations as pseudonyms.
